Recent News August 2015

Seawall construction and repair projects continue to make up a large percent of our current projects. Base materials are

Stone and granite block and cast in place concrete. In recent years concrete seawall restoration has become one of our specialties.

Marine pile driving and sheet pile projects: The extreme winter caused many harbors and rivers to ice in. This made for a very busy spring and kept the Barge90 crew busy with projects from Plymouth to Gloucester.  A significant portion of this work was the repair of broken wood and steel float piles for a number of marinas and home owners.

Land based pile driving: The number of land based pile projects for both commercial and residential applications has doubled in the past year. These installations include wood and steel piles. We have teamed up with a seasoned Geotechnical / Structural engineer to provide design-build foundation packages.

Concrete Restoration: We are presently working on two land based concrete restoration projects which incorporate structural and non-structural repair procedures to concrete walls, decks and columns.

Residential / Commercial Piers: We have recently begun construction of a 180' timber supported pier in Marblehead. The scope of work includes pile driving, timber framing, moorings, gangway fabrication and float construction.

Timber float Construction: This season has been one of our busiest for wood float construction. These floats ranged from 20'x40' to

standard 8x24's for marinas, boat clubs and private residences.

Towing and Logistical Support: Since her USCG inspection last year, our tug "Emily Anne" has been engaged in a number of

towing and support operations from Salem to New York. Although construction is our primary focus we continually try to service the needs of our customers.

Concrete Restoration of existing wall: The lower section of the wall contains very little sound concrete. Working closely with the engineers and owners, we developed a plan to remove 80% of the lower wall and transfer the loads from the weakened wall to the new facing wall and the upper wall. The original wall failed due to either reactive concrete or poor placement practices.

As seen below the poor quality concrete is consistent along the bottom section of the length of the wall

Difficult access was the primary challenge in execution of this project. The original revetment which supported the deck above

had failed. The new revetment stone was trucked in using a track mounted dump. Stone ranges from 2 to 6 tons wall length was 200'
